BENTONITE FOR DRILLING
Bentonite is used for drilling fluids. When mixed with water, bentonite clay forms a viscous gelled suspension which serves as a basis for drilling fluid.
During borehole construction the drilling fluid is pumped through the well to remove cuttings, lubricate and cool the bit.
An important property of bentonite-based drilling fluid is that it muds up the borehole walls, ensuring their stability.
When the drilling fluid circulation is stopped, the clay suspension keeps the cuttings from settling, which prevents blocks and, consequently, accidents in the boreholes.
Specific feature of bentonite clay as a natural material is that it’s environmentally friendly.
Interesting fact: To prepare drilling fluid of specific viscosity only 50 kg of bentonite per 1 m3 of water is needed, and to construct a borehole of 100 m depth, less than 15 m3 of bentonite-based drilling fluid is required.
ADVANTAGES OF OUR BENTONITES FOR DRILLING FLUIDS:
•low sand content, which reduces wear on drilling equipment.
•optimum viscous-plastic and filtration properties.
•ensure effective borehole cleanout.
For the oil and gas industry, TAGBENT LLP offers the following products:
- Bentonite powders for drilling fluids, grades: PBMA, PBMB, PBMV, PBMG are widely used as a universal, inexpensive basis for drilling fluids.
- Bentonite powder PBMA of PREMIUM class has an increased slurry yield – more than 27 m3/t and an unlimited shelf life.
- Bentonite powders PBM ETALON and PBMA-EXTRA are used for the preparation of drilling fluids with mineralized and salt-saturated industrial water.
- SUPERGEL is a mineral bentonite peptizer that optimizes the structural and mechanical properties of basic drilling grades.
- PBK is a combination of a polymer composition and premium bentonite with a montmorillonite content of 85%, it has a high dispersion rate – 15 minutes is enough to prepare the solution; the properties of a 2% suspension of PBK are equivalent to a 0.8% solution of xanthan gum.
